Three Fundamentals We Focus On
Budgeting isn't rocket science, but it does require understanding a few core concepts. These three areas form the backbone of everything we teach.
Tracking Reality
Most people have no idea what they actually spend. Not guessing, not estimating—tracking real numbers for real expenses. You'd be surprised how much those coffee runs add up over a month.
Category Planning
Once you know where money goes, you can decide where it should go instead. Groceries, utilities, entertainment—breaking it down by category makes everything clearer and less overwhelming.
Building Buffers
Life happens. Cars break down, appliances fail, unexpected costs pop up. Having even a small emergency buffer changes everything about how you handle money stress.
How We Got Started Teaching This Stuff
Started With Spreadsheets
Began helping friends and family understand their finances using basic spreadsheets. Nothing fancy—just tracking income and expenses in ways that made sense to regular people.
First Proper Workshops
Word spread and we started running small group sessions at community centres around Brisbane. Taught practical budgeting methods that people could actually stick with long-term.
Opened Learning Centre
Set up our space at Pacific Fair to offer structured programs. Still the same straightforward approach, just with more resources and better support for students working through their finances.
Next Program Launch
Rolling out our comprehensive budgeting fundamentals course this autumn. Enrolments open from July onwards for classes starting in September through October 2025.
What Makes Our Approach Different
No Complicated Formulas
Financial advisors love complicated terms and complex calculations. We don't. Everything we teach uses basic maths that anyone can do without special software or apps. If you can add and subtract, you're qualified.
Real Household Examples
All our scenarios come from actual budgets we've worked with—families dealing with childcare costs, singles managing rent in expensive areas, couples juggling multiple income sources. You'll recognise yourself in these situations.
Practice With Your Numbers
Theory only gets you so far. During our sessions, you work with your actual income and expenses. Build your real budget, not some hypothetical example that doesn't match your life.
